I graduated from BCIT two years after high school, so I got an early start on a career. I lived in Vancouver for 6 years, then took a
Digital Mapping/Geographic Information Systems job with the provincial government in Victoria in 1976. I have lived here ever since.
My job with the provincial
government evolved over the years. I was Manager of Web Services for two provincial ministries when I retired in 2007. This was a career switch for me created by
a major reorganisation of the provincial civil service by the new government
of the day. In the end, I worked for the BC government for 31.5 years. I never thought I would stick with one
employer for such a long time!
On the personal side, I've been
involved in a couple of long term relationships - the
first one with a woman, the second one with a man.
Staying in the closet until I was 40 was probably the
dumbest thing I've ever done. My partner and I
have exchanged rings of commitment, and plan to "live
long and prosper".
I'm having a ball after retiring. I have traveled to Costa Rica a couple of times on astronomy tours;
gone on an African Safari, and will be leaving on a slow
boat to New Zealand Sept-Nov 2010. . Please browse my
JoeTourist.ca website to see all the details of my
travels over the years.
We took a long drive in our
new motor home to Alberta & Saskatchewan in the
summer of 2009, and are having fun
taking shorter
trips to explore the Island.
