Hobbies & Fun Things

Corvette aficionado! I have enjoyed restoring some old ones from the 60's, doing the car show circuit, and autocross racing. I bought my first one in 1974 and have owned many over the years. Other passions include fair weather hiking and exploring new places, listening to good music and watching good movies (I also like high-end audio/video systems), reading good books by the fireplace in the winter, and enjoying our cat family. Favourite place visited is a tie between New Orleans and Edinburgh; I hope to return to both; they are an experience.

Post-secondary Education

BCIT - Chemical & Metallurgical, Diploma Magna Cum Laude

What's Happened Since High School

I graduated from BCIT in 1973 and landed my first job as an environmental technologist at a pulp mill in Prince Rupert, BC. In a search for greater opportunities six years later, in 1979, I joined Shell Oil. Turned out to be a good career move that lasted almost 30 years working with a lot of really good people, both within Shell as well as within the larger oil industry. Shell moved me to Winnipeg in 1989 and then to Calgary in 1992, where I remained until my retirement in 2008. My final and most enjoyable assignment was as a member of a specialist team responsible for fuel quality.

After retirement and almost 4 decades away from Vancouver Island, I (we) moved to Nanaimo in 2009 to be close to our grandchildren. So I'm back, and it feels great!
I have been blessed with good health and a loving wife and believe that every day is a precious gift. Someone has said "Life is not about waiting for the storms to pass ... it's about learning how to dance in the rain".

Other Comments

Retirement is awesome. I am comfortably busy and totally content. Life's journey continues.
