PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGES are not often read, I know, but it is my fond hope that at least a few of you will read and reflect on my words.
You all want and seek success - of which Booker T. Washington, the Negro educator, wrote... "Success is not measured by the heights one attains but by the obstacles one overcomes in its attainment."
I believe his words have meaning for all of you as individuals.
If making high marks in school means success to all of you, then many of you will not be successful. Later on, if making plenty of money means success to you, then many of you will be grievously disappointed. If, in your school years, you too often make 'D' grades, when you could have made 'C' grades, you will not experience all the wonders of success.
And, if you are content to sit on the sidelines when you could have participated in the game, you will not feel success.
It is an amazing and sometimes overpowering world for which you are preparing... a world which promises great happiness, but demands great responsibilities from each citizen. The challenges of the future can best of your abilities... there lies the key to success.
Every one of you can have this success! If you can be receptive and have the courage to do your best, success will not elude you, regardless of the task involved.
Try it... success... real success... is within your grasp!
